Top Ten Tips for Booking Entertainment for a Corporate Event

Entertainment

Entertainment is an activity planned to make others laugh. That is why to find entertainment for a corporate convention, holiday party or conference is an overwhelming task. As there exist plenty of excellent, useful, and downright horrible corporate entertainers in the market so, it is difficult to select the most suitable person for your event. However, reading this article will give you an idea of how to narrow down your search and find entertainment that will make your party a success. Check out the following steps to follow before choosing entertainment for your party:

Early Planning

The most popular corporate entertainers book up quickly for preferred dates. Moreover, during the corporate holiday party season, entertainers begin to book up over a year in advance. So, to avoid disappointment, start looking for entertainment as soon as you finalise the date of your event.

Know What You and Your Audience Desire

If you have an idea of the type of entertainment you and your audience want, then you can easily find an entertainer that would work correctly for your occasion. However, before finalising the entertainer, check out the list of what a popular corporate entertainment includes:

*Comedy

Comedy acts are a great way to get your group laughing together. However, some people assume comedy acts only include stand-up comedy, but the fact is this is not the scenario anymore. Because nowadays multiple comedians blend either magic, juggling, props, or music into their performance. This wide range helps ensure that there is something for everyone in the production.

That is why it does not matter what type of comedy act you choose, make sure that the comedy is appropriate for your group. As every comedian has different ideas on the definition of “clean comedy” so, make sure you watch a demo video to preview the show.

*Music

These days many top-notch singers and bands are also available for corporate events. So, if you are organising a musical party, hire any of them.

*Magic

Nowadays there exist multiple styles of corporate magicians, and corporate magic shows in the market such as some magicians offer strolling magic, some perform large illusion show with special effects and a cast of dancers, and some specialise in comedy magic that gets your audience involved laughingly in the act. It does not matter whatever styles of corporate entertainment you are looking for, what matters the most is you find the best magician in that particular niche.

Do not hire magicians who tell you they do everything such as illusions, comedy, and strolling. Because they are not proficient at a specific technique so, all their shows are usually only mediocre. For the best presentation, hire a professional corporate magician who specialises in one form of magic to make your show a hit.

Plan a Realistic Budget

The phrase “you get what you pay for” applies to entertainment as well. The show is not a place to compromise to save some money because no one likes to stay for long in a boring party. That is why entertainment is equally important as other arrangements. So, plan a realistic budget for your event earlier than repenting later.

Get an Idea about Performer’s Experience

Consider the fact you want a corporate entertainer who primarily entertains corporate audiences. Do not avoid asking questions such as is the performer a full-time entertainer, have they performed at such events in the past, and do they have letters of recommendation or reviews from the past clients?

Always ask for a Demo Video

A demo video is the only way to judge whether the corporate entertainer is right for your party or not. The demo video should contain short highlights of the segments of an entertainer’s show filming the video in front of a live audience so that you can see the reactions of the audience. If an entertainer’s video only consists of split-second clips and flashy graphics set to music, then the person is probably trying to cover for inadequate performance which means they have never performed in front of a real audience.

Know What All the Entertainer Includes in the Fee

There are travel expenses associated with hiring national entertainers for your corporate party. Many entertainers include the travel expenses into their performance fee, but for some travel is an additional expense. So, make sure you know what the entertainer has included in the cost quoted by you to avoid any surprises.

See the Entertainer’s Reactions on Attending Special Requests

Many entertainers are happy to customise their performance for your event; however, some are not. So, for something special in mind, discuss your requirements with the performer at the time of booking.

Discuss Set-Up Requirements before Booking

Set-up needs for entertainers vary vastly. Some can perform in a small room with just a microphone. Whereas, some need a minimum stage area with exceptional sound and lighting equipment. So, before booking, make sure your venue meets the set-up needs of your entertainer.

Book directly with the Entertainer for a Hitch-Free Experience

If you book your corporate entertainment directly through the entertainer, you will save money on the show. Most entertainment agencies add 15-35% to an entertainer’s fee. However, while booking directly, the most important thing you need to take care of is you communicate with your entertainer on a regular basis before the day of your event to avoid the chaos at the time of the show.

Leave Your Guests Wanting More

Ninety minutes of the entertainment sound like a great idea when you are planning a corporate event; however, most of the people do not want to sit through a ninety-minute show. That is why a more extended play is not at all a good idea. So, better you leave your audience excited and wanting more rather than having them get tired and start looking at the watch.

So, above are the top ten tips that you must follow before booking an entertainer for a corporate event to get a hassle-free experience.

  1. That’s a good idea to have the entertainer send you a highlight reel of sorts before you hire them. I would think that would be a good way to get a sense of how good they are and also if they would match the vibe of the event. I’ll have to make sure to do that if I ever have to throw a big party for my company.

  2. I’m in charge of planning our next Halloween corporate party and I wanted some tips since I’ve never done planning on this scale. I didn’t know during holiday party season, entertainers can get booked over a year in advance. I have at least 5 months to book and plan everything so this was a good tip! I’ll look for event entertainment as soon as possible, thanks to this post!
